Philippines participates in ACRS 2011

Filipino remote sensing researchers attended and participated in the 32nd Asian Conference on Remote Sensing which was held in Taiwan International Convention Center in Taipei last Oct. 3-7, 2011. The event is yearly organized and sponsored by the Asian Association of Remote Sensing also called as AARS. Inviting for fellow remote sensing scientists, researchers and professionals across Asia, the event aims at exchanging and gathering of information about remote sensing and other knowledge about geographic information system and surveying. The representatives from the Philippines are composed of researchers and professionals from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, De La Salle University, Energy Development Corporation and Caraga State University. This event has been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the various advancement in remote sensing that could be implemented and used to detect atmospheric condition and other related phenomenon.




Companies step-up and helps in battle against air pollution


According to the study of the World Health Organization, air pollution kills three times more people each year than automobile related accidents, which sums up three million people a year dying from the effects of unclean air. A separate study concludes that severe air pollution may shorten life expectancy by at least nine months. Another statistic shows that around 20% of cancer cases are associated the the harmful effects of air pollution. With these alarming findings, corporate leaders have stood up takes the initiative to fight against air pollution.
